Very nice. I know the article is aimed at the US market but should equally apply to UK users. I've dropped a link in here: http://midbuyer.co.uk/samsung/q1-ultra-internal-hsdpa-modem/

I'm going to give this a shot on my Q1U running Hardy Heron.

    Thanks for the article.

    Right,

I installed the 3G-watcher from that link!

The 3G-watcher didn`t find my device and the software include this TRU-Install piece of software to find the mini-PCI-card!

Re: My Origami Upgrade... the Q1u Premium with internal HSDPA...

New member here with a strong interest in getting a Q1U at some point in the near future (if I can find one at a decent price and I have the cash at the same time, that is). I'm wondering - and this is directed to Bartman - if you could provide some more information about the actual "hack" you did with this HSDPA upgrade for your Q1U, perhaps with some more pics or whatever you can provide I guess. Something like a PDF would really be awesome if you have the time or the ability, and would be greatly appreciated.

Spent the past few hours browsing this forum and some others for Q1U info and hacks, upgrades and updates, etc, and I'm freakin' hooked.

    Thanks, and have fun, always...

Re: My Origami Upgrade... the Q1u Premium with internal HSDPA...

Thanks Bartman for posting your cool photos and showing it's possible to mod the Q1UP with HSPDA!

I'm going to buy a Q1UP shortly, and def need in built 3G, so keen to mod given it's necessary.

So like br0andband, would def appreciate Bartman if you're able to give a little more step by step advice. In particular, for example what you have to remove etc to get to the miniPCI card slot; how you attach the 3G card, do you need to solder anything, whether using the inbuilt SIM card holder needed any modding etc.

    Many thanks!

    Cheers,
    Toby in London.

Re: My Origami Upgrade... the Q1u Premium with internal HSDPA...

I can answer part of this...

what you have to remove etc to get to the miniPCI card slot?

Soon as you remove the back plate of the device the motherboard is exposed and the mini pci slot is directly accessible, right above the hard drive. This is even easier that upgrading the ram and the wireless lan card because to access those you have to access the other side of the motherboard which requires much more screws to be removed and the motherboard to be flipped over delicately.

how you attach the 3G card, do you need to solder anything?

No soldering, just insert the 3G card in the slot and put in the screw to hold it in place, the attach the antenna(s) and find a place to stuff them so the device will close back up properly and thats it.

whether using the inbuilt SIM card holder needed any modding etc.

Can't really answer this one but he did mention that it required removing a section of plastic on the sim card holder slot which is blocking the sim card from being inserted completely. I think he talked about it here in this thread.

    Good luck.

    That's awesome!

    Thanks for that Quick.

Sounds much easier than I imagined. Not that I won't be doing it very carefully and slowly!

Re: My Origami Upgrade... the Q1u Premium with internal HSDPA...

Imdbui, the 875u will work fine as well.  The 881 is the newer (and faster) version of the Sierra Wireless USB modem with up to 7.2 Mbps transfer rates on downlink and 2.0 Mbps on the uplink and the 881 also has an antenna attached to the modem in addition to the 2nd antenna port which helps a bit.
