Q1b ram upgrade attn grimster or Tom Mac

I know that grimster & Tom Mac has upgraded the Q1b ram from 512 to 1 gig so I am planning to upgrade my new Q1b and I ordered the Q1 chip from Crucial as that is all they had listed but now am wondering if it will work or is there a different chip for the Q1b?? Thanking all jim_joh

I used the Kingston chip... tho there are more than one that will work if you use the original specs. It is  a 1 GB DDR2-533 SODIMM, 200-pin chip

But the swap was easy, no problems with the AVS partition... just the six screws and GENTLY pull it apart... chip was swapped out in under 15min total.

You should not have any problem with the AVS Partition because as far as I know there is not any AVS Partition in the Q1U. The Q1U never had an instant on in a AVS Partition, when you push the botton for AVS, what the Q1U does it logon into Vista and run the AVS Program. The hidden partition in the Q1U is a restore partition as far as we found in another thread.

Correct,  but on the Q1b it's running XP Tablet and the partition for AVS caused a problem in the earlier Q1s and Q1Ps ... the Q1b had the upgraded software which contained a larger area for instant on.

Sorry, my mistake, I missed the B after the Q1. Correct, the Q1s and Q1p have this problem.

i know this is an old thread but I'm out of options and I'm having a problem with my Q1b.. I bought a Kingston SODIMM 1GB from Buy.com at a sweet $30. It was a retail package, sealed so looks authentic. But after insterting into my Q1b (yes has most recent BIOS from Sam) and powering on, i get a power light, hard drive spins up. But it doesn't even post, light up the LCD or beep at me...? I put the other module back in and it starts up fine..

I made sure specs for the memory were the same. Actually I have seen a few posts where users have upgraded their Q1b with exact same part number of memory I have with no issues. I re-flashed my BIOS and even contacted Kingston, who were quick to let me know they don't support it anymore (had to try)...

I really want 1GB but I'm not sure what the deal is? Any one have any thoughts? *stomps feet like 3 yr old*
