Schustring--your comment does not apply to Vista users does it?

Did I miss something?  Is there a new bios version?  Any info appreciated.

Thanks Bill you answered my question on application to Vista before I read down far enough. When I went in to change the setting I had to change not only the initial but also the maximum.  I put them both at that 3055 figure.  Was that correct?

I'm by no means an expert on this, but my understanding was that the paging file (virtual memory) was just space on the hard drive that was allocated for use as "virtual ram."  So when your system is running low on normal system memory it will use this area of the hard drive to make up for the increased system load.  The general recomendation is that this be about 1.5 times the amount of actual system memory.  When upgrading to the 2GB level do you really need a paging file this big though?  Normal system use puts me at around 1/4 of my available 2 GB of RAM.  Wouldn't increasing the virtual memory only serve to increase the amount of HDD activity and further slow down the system?  Again, I don't know that much about the subject, so I would also appreciate any clarification from an expert.

Well the 1.5 times is what I changed it too.  I am experiencing a big boost in speed from it unless I am deluding myself which I guess is possible considering how much I like this machine. I have no tech knowledge, just a reasonable user so I have no idea how it works.

this tip and the 1.5 figure have been around since Windows 95 I think.  And so far I can't say if it really works or not.  One thing is for sure, I have applied it many tines and in many PCs  and I can't tell you one thing  there are not miracles in this tip. And after installing 2 Gb. . . is not clear to me if this really is going to help.

I understand but I promise it seems to have made a substantial difference. 'I would love to hear if others are perceiving the same thing to check my subjective perceptions.

The specs say compatible with Core 2 Duo or AMD Turion 64 x2 processors, neither of which is in our Q1U-Vs, right? I always thought you just bought the fastest RAM you could afford.

I believe that the "Patriot" ram which several of us have bought from Frys and installed is also clocked at 5300, it automatically adjust down to match the lower Ultra speed.

Just played with the paging on my Tablet, prior to upgrading it to Vista. It made quite a difference (had installed 2Gb Ram in that when I got it, and never bothered to check - set to 768Mb or something).

Can't say the effect on Vista, but it does "seem" much quicker than when it was running XP with sub-optimal paging ! Which is a bit of a surprise really, particuarly as I am running Aero, was expecting it to be like treacle.

Does anyone know if there is a manufacturer that produces 2 GB SODIMMs with a CL better than 5?  In all my searches it seems like that is as good as it gets, but I just wanted to make sure.  I don't mind paying extra for faster memory.  Thanks!

A quick thought on 2GB on the Q1U: I'm examining the case, and it's not obvious how to open it and get at the RAM.  It no longer appears to have the six little screws that the earlier Q1 models have.  I see two on the left looking at the back, but not others.  I was going to try to upgrade it, but now I think I'm going to hold off until someone else finds an easy way to open the case without destroying it.

Was anyone successfully able to upgrade 2GB in Q1U. The case looks tricky to open?

Step by step how to open case and upgrade. I literally played the video, paused of the step. Watched the next step, paused etc. It is at the GBM site.
