Overclocking Q1U INTEL A110, DONE!
Hello all,
I see people asking about how to overclock the Q1U with the Intel A110. Someone has said that the PLL used for this unit is SLG8SP513 and not to be able to overclock softwise.
Download SETFBS from http://www.overclock.net/downloads/255892-setfsb-2-0-a.html and select the CV174CPAG PLL from dropdown list and hit the GET FBS button. There you go, you can now overclock your Samsung Q1U.
Seen how the cooling setup reacts to 10% overclock of FBS and DDR, it seems there isn`t much room for overcloking due to heat tolerance. It seems to do ok up to 15% increase (917,8MHz CPU and 458,9MHz FBS), but I haven`t had the unit for long enough to be willing to kill it so soon. Have not played with the PCI and PCI-E BUS speed yet, don´t see the point (i don`t play games on my Q1U).
As the DDR memory will support from 200Mhz to 333Mhz it would be nice to kick down the CPU multiplier so to increase the BUS speed to mantain CPU under 1Ghz while memory could achieve 333Mhz. Need to play with it some more. Hope this helps someone...... Sorry if you get greedy and make toast of your Q1
Thanks to ABO for writting such a cool program, and it works!!

Re: Overclocking Q1U INTEL A110, DONE!
Have it running at 1Ghz with no problems so far. There are only 2 PLL on the list available on my version of SetFBS (Ver 2.0.b.17m) that start with CV, the second one should be CV174CPAG , this one works for me, no error. My Q1U has been purchased 2 weeks ago in Spain. Had the old Q1 before, could't get that one to overclock.
The battery life runs down to 2,5 hours it looks like. It is good for working while plugged to AC, so far I can't see how to make it change the PLL at bootup. Have to do it manually after each time.
I have a screen capture of CPUZ and SETFBS running 1Ghz, can't seem to be able to insert it in this post, anyone?

Re: Overclocking Q1U INTEL A110, DONE!
Great find. As for the OC, the Q1u should be able to push past the 15% mark but the cooling may need some mods. A stronger fan and some cooling pipes should do the trick.
Too bad I don't have my Q1u to test this. It's at Samsung's repair center..... AGAIN

I tried it on my U810 and didn't work, got the error PLL. I also tried several others and one just locked the computer and had to hold the power button to turn off.

Re: Overclocking Q1U INTEL A110, DONE!
it was me who said it is slg8sp513v, which will not able to use the pll that u mention, your machine prolly is using another PLL, and i emailed ABO awhile back and ask him about that, and he said the PLL that we use is not software OCable, HOWEVER, i just download the new setfsb just for the hell of it, and found out slg505yc256bt will be able to OC the q1u that i have to around 900mhz

well, using 1G now, and the gain in performance from oc is exactly the same % of the % oc-ed. temperature is increase, but i dont think it is too hot to run, i think...........

spoon_ek9:. . . found out slg505yc256bt will be able to OC the q1u that i have to around 900mhz
slg505yc256bt works for me too (I also got the .pll error with CV174CPAG)
Had my q1u running at 1ghz for about 20 minutes, just now. The machine was pretty snappy, and didn't seem to blow air that was much hotter out of the exaust vent.

Re: Overclocking Q1U INTEL A110, DONE!
slg505yc256bt worked for me as well, i got up to 1GHz without any real noticable reaction in the cooling system.
my question is, will SpeedStep still work while OC'ing or will i be constantly running at 1GHz now?
"As the DDR memory will support from 200Mhz to 333Mhz"
i dont even remember the specs so well anymore, but doesnt the Q1U use DDR2-533 (266mhz). so where do you get the 333MHz support figur? this program stated my RAM was only running at 200MHz by default.

Re: Overclocking Q1U INTEL A110, DONE!
OK, I need to admit my general ignorance about overclocking. How about someone give me a 10 sentence education. Is this effectively a BIOS patch? Certainly it isn't an OS modification.
While the 800mhz is doing fine for me and my limited usage in browsing and spreadsheets, speed is always a good thing.

125.1/250.2 is my highest stable for awhile now, anybody pushed it further?

Re: Overclocking Q1U INTEL A110, DONE!
I just put my FSB to 124.7MHz (approx 1GHz CPU) and it blue screened with a hardware failure![Sad [:(]](/emoticons/emotion-6.gif) 118.7MHz (950MHz CPU) and it screwed the display... only had half a desktop.lol
I'm currently stable at 115.1, giving 920.5MHz, which seems to cut the loading time of photoshop CS3 by 12 seconds![Big Smile [:D]](/emoticons/emotion-2.gif)
EDIT: I've just tried the built in cameras which I'd previously written off as a total waste of time because they were too stuttery... with the increased speed there is still a little stutter, but not a lot, the cameras are now quite useable! Are you guys running at 1GHz getting any stutter or is smooth?
Also, to those who have installed a HSDPA PCI-E card... be aware that when it's on and connected the CPU temp pretty much instantly rockets up by about 7 degrees C which it never did before... just something to keep an eye on![Wink [;)]](/emoticons/emotion-5.gif)

Re: Overclocking Q1U INTEL A110, DONE!
Glad to see everybody is enyoing a little OC for their Q1U. For some reason my Q1U came with the CV174CPAG PLL. I guess it is pretty common to have to produce with different componets because of shortage problems for specific parts. If it wasn´t for all the paperwork that is needed. Anyway I tryed the PLL you all seem to be using and I get the PLL ID error. Like I said, my Q1U was purchesed about 3 weeks ago from Techdata. It is a Q1U/000/SES model meant for Spain´s market.
Anyway mine has been running for a day or two at 130Mhz before I got the blue screen of death. It seems to do fine up to 120Mhz FBS like otrers report. Happy OCing all!!
