That's what I paid for mine, plus the shipping to canada and taxes, came to about 90$...good enough...

 

No need to pay that much. I got a brand new external Memorex DL DVD USB 2.0/Firewire burner for $30 after rebate from Frys.com a month ago. I got my rebate back yesterday.

I went for a Lite-on DVD Brunerwith lightscribe(which I dont use) and its is one tempremental little bit of .... equipment. It can take an hour to get it to read anything.

I'd be interested to hear how this one performs?

It's good to hear that. I still didn't received my unit. I'm somewhat worried about the slot loading and if it will be able to boot.

It was the cheapest and the least bulky CD/DVD drive I ever bought because it wasn't a drive but as good as one.

There are some cheap and slim DVD burners at http://www.centrix-intl.com

There are some kits so that you can build your own, but I am unsure if the Q1U can provide enough power to burn a CD/DVD. From what I recall it takes much less power to read a CD as opposed to burning one. Some slim burners require the user to plug in both USB ports and that might be hard to do on the Q1U.

Anyone have any experience with this? I am interested in purchasing a slim DVD burner that is solely USB bus powered as I don't want to carry too many power adapters and cords with me when I travel.

 

Mine is USB only powered, I have two wires going to the drive, one for data and the other for extra power, I can use an external wallwart if I need to since the power plug is a standard coax one...
