Any new Samsung Q1 Ultra info in here please...

This should be released in a matter of weeks. I have had the Q1 since the 1st June last year and it has been the best gadget I have ever owned, period. After seeing the new devices on Origamiportal just now the Q1 Ultra still does it for me. Not having a keyboard has not been a problem for me at all, so the devices with those in built are a real turn off.

The new CPU seems slightly disappointing to me, I was hoping for a cut down Core 2 but it seems to be a Pentium M.

Anyone know about the graphics? Is it the X3000 in the 945 chipset or a slower GPU. I was hoping to be able to have a good World of Warcraft experience on the Ultra. It was good on the Q1 but the little thumboard will be better on the Ultra and the Analogue stick for control. (not to mention better graphics, hopefully and the increased resolution.)

Any deeper info will be greatly appreciated.

I just want a release date so i have something to count down to!

I'm not sure what to make of the processor, it only runs at 800mhz but yet it is able run vista with aero! I think the graphics card has been beefed up to be able to handle aero.

I was hoping Samsung would give the Q1 Ultra a proper release date at this IDF conference.

And i totally agree that the Q1 Ultra still looks the best by far!!

Wish we could get a final US$ price and release date! This is an antagonizingly slow torture lol...

Is the processor quicker than the one in the Q1P (Pentium M 1.0Ghz) ?

I cant see how it would be if its based on the Pentium M but only running at 800Mhz

I was also hoping for some actual concrete release dates on the upcoming umpc's. It's great to know specific details about the processors and future plans and such but it would be better to know when they are available to buy online or in store. The terms "launched" and "planned" are just too torturous and equate to "someday soon" and "eventually" or in other words, useless. Wink [;)]

By the way, for those who purchased the original celeron model this time last year, what retailers did you purchase your Q1 from in North America: CDW.com, mobileplanet, BUY.com, Newegg?

Well you would think so, BUT....

According to the screenshots of the Q1-Ultra, the Vista Performance Score for the CPU was 2.0, and the score for the Q1P CPU was 2.4.

So if that is true, then its about the same as the Celeron CPU? Which would make sense because the Q1-Ultra CPU has only 512kb cache, then P4M has 1mb.

That said though the graphics chipset is much better... Thats the reason why Vista was handling much more smooth on the Q1-Ultra.

Kind of disappointing it wasn't dual core though.

Perhaps it is a heat issue ? My Dual-Core tablet has a fan that could cool an apartment block.

I can't imagine the ultra CPU is a core solo or pentium type. I played with the thing at CeBit, and it's darn fast and does Aero like a champ. I have some pics and short videos up here:

Re: Any new Samsung Q1 Ultra info in here please...

The real-world performance of the Ultra seems comparible to the P4M CPU despite the drop in speed and cache size. However, the HDD on the Ultra is of course much slower than the SSD in the Q1P.

So, what will an Ultra with an SSD be like? I intend to find out by ripping the drive out my 'P' and putting it in the Ultra the day it arrives - insane, but I cannot wait.

This combination must be the fastest there is.

As for the graphics, I was very pleasantly surprised at the onboard Intel offering. Obviously totally designed for Aero.

http://jkontherun.blogs.com/jkontherun/ is reporting the Q1 Ultra to be available in Korea "very soon".

Looks like a May release is still looking good!

I thought we were waiting on the 18th for the release info?

Spit, the graphics will be the gma950. The x3000 is for desktops/regular laptops since it uses too much power.

The 18th only confirmed the platform and chip types. There was no new information available from Intel on when devices would be available other than "sometime this summer". I guess its letting manufacturers make their own annoucements as it was showing off the number of different devices using their new Macaslan platform
