that picture with halo running has got to be a video or it was digitally placed on the video, (the image is from a early UMPC commercial. also theres no way it was being played with those controls on the UMPC... theres not enough buttons.. its improbable. and Impossible to beat Halo with those controls.

Hey, DirectX 9.0 is already enabled in today GPUs! Or I'm totally wrong about the matter...
Yes, but we're talking about GPUs for UMPC devices. The amount of power that would be consumed by e.g. ATI Radeon X1300 is enormous - batteries would suffice for less than an hour, and that's definitely not "mobile". For mobile devices you have two options: cheaper and worse GPUs like those produced by Intel or mobile versions of desktop GPUs (e.g. ATI Mobility Radeon series). Those big mobile GPUs produce vast amount of heat and still require a lot of power. We can easily assume we won't see them inside UMPCs. At least not yet. :) Soooo... there will be not DX9 enabled GPUs inside UMPCs for some time.

I think that blizzard should make a special version or something via patch to adjust the game to the UMPC

    Re: Plays PC games?

Does the pen and touchscreen act like a mouse would on a desktop (example, the touching represents a mouse click)? If so, then how would you emulate the pressing of the right mouse button (or middle mouse button for three-button mouse)? Or does the pen just place the cursor and the UMPC buttons beside the screen act as mouse clicks?

How are they going to implement that?

Edit: I will be trying to play HOMM3 myself on UMPC. It's one of those old games that I like to play because nothing newer seems to run on my old desktop.

    Re: Plays PC games?

In the Pocket PC you hold the pen down for a few seconds and then the right click menu comes up.

I am assuming it would probably be the same on the UMPC.

That sounds sucky for playing games. I hope that if it is really like that then there will be options for changing it.

I got to thinking about it and I figured there is no need to let the touching of the screen place the mouse cursor, it should simply do a right click. For left clicks, the user holds down one of the origami buttons and then touches the screen. Instant response would be better for playing PC games.

thats a bad idea... cuz the major function of the UMPC is not for games. Why should it right click? you're focusing on a strategy game. Instead of regular xp features.

also... in the tabletkiosk video. the girl is playing a game that requires directx 9.0 so does this mean that we will actually be able to play modern games?

    Re: Plays PC games?

I had this exact question and I saw that the UMPC fit all the minimum requirements, all was left was the graphics. The Samsung, acccording to Bestbuy.com. Uses a Intel GMA 900 integrated graphics, which is fully supported by Blizzard -> http://www.blizzard.com/support/wow/?id=aww0830p

Founder's UMPC also has the 915 GMS chipset which features the Intel GMA 900 chip just like the Samsung.

The Asus UMPC I cant find any GPU information on these.

The TabletKiosk eo's graphics is VIA UniChrome which is NOT supported by Blizzard, so there is a low chance of playing it on the eo.

I don't play games on PC much anymore, aside from the odd game of Bejeweled now and then.  I would not use a device like this to play games, there are better gaming solutions out there.

Ther might be better gaming solutions out there, but you forget, that there might not be all games available for these better gaming solutions, mobile ones or not. And most of the games available to today are looking 10 or more times better than those on these "better gaming solutions".

Guys, if you use the search button before you ask you will save a lot of time.
I have been testing some games and posting results here and at my blog.

Here are some games that work in an eo (Some of them surprisedly do not work in Q1)

    AoE II
    Diablo
    Freelancer
    Real War

Can someone test World of Warcraft on the Samsung? You can try on the TabletKiosk but it most likely wont work.
