    Re: asus?

I've been using the R2H for a couple of weeks now and am extremely pleased with it.

I must say, I was looking for a portable internet browser with a screen large enough to be practical and this really fits the bill. Hibernating gives excellent startup\shutdown times, LAN\WAN performance is great: even on a low signal the response is snappy, the display really works well and is perfect for single user viewing.

I do find that the panning option works best as the browser header can be shifted off screen to get maximum pageviewing. Thing is, it switches back sometimes on startup and sometimes its just handy without the pan and there's no proper option to toggle panning: How to switch between the two? Well, it seems XP checks for optimum resolution at startup and pops up an option in the icon bar for switching back. It can take 1 or 2 tries restarting tho before it gets it right. The Asus 'Splendid display' utility does reset sometimes too, but setting it to maximum compatibilty mostly leaves things as they were when starting up. I have yet to find all the services which can be removed safely.

The joystick is a little 'heavy' for my taste as it requires some pressure to move around properly, as it also functions as a leftclick when pressed, this can backfire when on the move. Otherwise navigation is a doddle.

I have the version without bluetooth or camera (and an extra E50,- discount from CentralPoint due to their miscommunication) and am now waiting for the 1GB mem-expansion.

    Will report back later

    Cheers!

not sure why anyone would buy the R2H....The celeron M lacks L2 cache.....sucks.

Why on earth Asus did this is anyones guess. Performance = :(

As far as performace goes this UMPC is highly NOT recommended.

    Grimster,

That may be so, but my experience is that after some tweaking my asus is very snappy. All programs i run on it are performing very well. I run for instance Office 2007, Mindmanager, MediaPlayer 11.

Bottom line is the experience wich counts, not just specs. And offcourse experience is allways subjective....

The CPU in the R2H gets a 1.9 rating from Vista, not bad for a 900MHz.
