    Re: asus?

I Just did a standby and did not have to end any processes. The same with hibernation. Only when i completely shut the device down, sometimes i have to end a process, mostly not.

Most of the time i use hibernation , not a complete shut down. It takes to long to shut down and to start up. I configured the powerbutten the same way Stefan did.

    Re: asus?

    Stefan:
You can change the behaviour of the power switch with the Control Panel (Power Options > Advanced > Power buttons)  I've set it to "hibernate" instead of "switch off". This means that a quick slide of the switch makes the Asus hibernating immediately (takes only a few seconds, waking up takes about 45 seconds).

    Hi Stefan,

I changed that setting yesterday and pushed the off-switch several times.....

    ......nothing happened.

When I pushed for a little longer my device was shut down abrubtly.

Before that the button was set to Stand By but the swich showed the same behaviour.

Could it be I removed a program too much?
(I removed most of the Asus tools and also the UMPC keyboard (which is useless because my fingers are too big so I have to press too hard and there's no hardware key).

    Edit
I tried it a third time. When it works for others it should work for me too.
    Now it works!

I don't understand why it didn't work the first two times but I'm happy it works now.

    Marcel,

Have you also checked the Enable Hibernation checkbox in the Hibernation-tab?

This Tab is also in the PowerButtons section.

    Succes,

    Re: asus?

After using the R2H for about a week, here is my opinion:

    Hardware: very well built.
I don't miss the camera (would not use it anyway), bluetooth would have been be nice but a cheap BTdongle will do.
The stylus holder sits on the left side, at top or rightside would have been better I think for righthanded people, but I can live with it.
The unit performes much better than expected. I had my doubts about the processor but its certainly fast enough for the things I want to do.
My screen has 1 dead pixel. I contacted Mycom and I'll get a new one when new stock arrives. Very good service.

Software: I don't like the dialkeys and the program launcher so I removed them.
Norton trial was preinstalled. No doubt it's good software but not for the specs this machine has. I removed it and installed Nod 32.
I haven't found a way to remap the hardware buttons, so I'm desperate looking for a remap utility.
Shutting down and hibernating through the Power4 Gear utility works very fast. I don't no why but it does a better job than the default Windows way.
I installed Internet Explorer 7, which is almost a perfect browser for smaller screens.
The R2H has a nice screen for watching movies. Powerdvd works fine.
My fav app for typing (fingers or stylus) is Inscribe.

I'm really happy with this toy.

    Re: asus?

I had the smae thing, Changed the setting to Hybernation but nothing happened, but now it does work. I think you might have to do a restart to get it to work - or maybe it's just another one of those 'sometimes it does and sometimes it doesnt' that seem to plague (my two days with) the Asus!

Still I have not received my memory yet. Supplier keeps telling me it is in stock and should be delivered in 2 to 5 days time.....

    Re: asus?

Hi, this is my first post....I saw the dutch website (mycom) and I'm really interested about the R2H....but I have some questions:

I saw that now it is available also in Germany but that version is alittle bit better but 300 euros more expensive...I'm thinking about to wait maybe 1 or 2 weeks just to see if a better version could be available on mycom....Do u think that it would be possible?

The one sold at mycom is only in dutch and english? Could I add a new language (french or italian) leater?

Shipping costs and deadline buying from mycom?

    Thanks

    Re: asus?

    Just a few observations/experiences:

I don't know what your experiences are, but compared to my notebook, recharging of the Asus battery is quite slow.

Outlook did not work well on my Asus, until i removed the Multiframe utility. I still don't know what it should do. (using multiple monitors?)

Explorer 7 is great on the Umpc. You can zoom in and out.

    Re: asus?

So has anyone thought about running Mac OS X on their Asus yet? or Linux????? i think it has enough power to get the job done and would probably look great! :-)

    Re: asus?

I'm running Ubuntu linux on the i7210. Its a similar core architecture but I guess the USB devices will be different. The i7200 series uses a lot of USB-based devices (wlan, bt, screen, cam) Is the touchscreen a USB device on the ASUS?

[edit: none of the USB devices are working yet.]

    Main aim: xgl and mythtvfrontend.

    Steve.

    Re: asus?

I found a tool with which it is possible to do some key remapping. In fact, it is a keyboard key remapper.Unfortunatly, it is not possible to map the starting of an application. However, it is possible to remap a key to a function wich is often found on keyboards. For instance i mapped my arrow back key (wich is on the cursor pad) to the browser back function. you can take a look what is in it for you. The name of the tool is KeyTweak. You can find it here. http://webpages.charter.net/krumsick/

Hi, sorry for the late reply. Regarding MyCom: I don't think they ship to other countries; sorry :-(

What they told me is: all of the stock they had was English language. I don't know if it's possible to get XP Tablet to display in Italian or French, but I assume there's a way.

If I was you, I'd wait and see if an Italian-language version is forthcoming.

    Others:

Yeah, charging takes a little longer then I'd like.

    Re: Linux.

I'm considering setting up a dual boot system just for fun. But I have no clue what distro would even remotely work with the touch screen, wlan etc. The R2H is currently too useful for me to experiment with :D

    Woadan:

So to get more things, like GPS and fingerprint reader, you have to give up half the RAM that comes standard in the Q1?

Given that we know 1/2 GB of RAM is barely sufficient, I have to ask what the hell Asus was thinking. And for all you suckers, erm, customers who were waiting, well, was it worth the wait?

    Woadan

So what do you have to say for yourself now that it is showed it can handle well over 1Gb ??
    Yeah thought so!

    Re: asus?

Given that at the time I made this post, it looked like it was the case that it didn't, I'll stand by the assessment I made then. Hindsight is always 20-20, and while it turned out otherwise, and I'm happy for the R2H owners, it seems a little much to say I told you so when you didn't.

That said, how much did it cost to get from the base unit to where you are now with the R2H (for its owners), including the cost of the R2H? What about if you had only upgraded to get to 0.50 Gigs of RAM?

I think the initial cost of ownership plus the upgrade (either one) is higher. So, why did you wait for the R2H?

As far as the Q1 goes, for my use, which is nothing taxing for its specs, it serves it purposes without needing an upgrade.

I'd rather not have the fingerprint module, so it would be superfluous for me. I'd rather have a separate GPS unit because I can use it with my phone in my car on days I don't want to lug the Q1 out and use it. (When I'm going to the ball game or the Ren Fest, I don't want to lug the Q1 with me. I can handle the cell phone and the pager-sized GPS.)

As a general all-in-one unit, the R2H probably fits the bill. But it doesn't give me the flexibility I would prefer to have, and the camera and the GPS are not the best possible units in the world, so you have a compromise to make that I'm not willing to.

And the specs of the PC and OS combo aren't enough of a difference that waiting for the R2H would have been worth it for me.

    (shrug)

    Different strokes for different folks.

    Re: asus?

    Hi Dustin,

I own the dutch version. And how i got fooled again! no webcam and no bluetooth (why does your version have bluetooth? it only has the bluetooth icon ! but the hardware is not installed).  Asus NL even hasn't got a clue about how to support the device (if you can reach their support dept. that is - try the website for a change.. still using a dial up modem connection?). And what about the GPS or fingerprint recognition. You need to be an Asus engineer to figure out how to get things working. And above all it's friggin' slow and the battery does not last longer than 3 hours. I've put it on marktplaats within 1,5 weeks. I'll be watching out for the Samsung Q1 (who apparently will not ship in the NL). Typically a case of marketing ahead of product development.

    Cheers,

    Marco
