    ZhuBaJie:

Today I received the ASUS R2H... Yippie!

I was pleasantly surprised; it's very complete with a foldable Targus keyboard with auto-rollup cable, a desktop stand, a nice bag to hold it and lots of cables, books and CD's.
There's even an USB netlink cable included!

I said earlier the Dutch version doesn't have Bluetooth and the Webcam. It does however have Bluetooth so only the Webcam is missing.

Hey, that is awesome! Mind if I ask where you bought it and what you paid for it? Getting information from ASUS has been a bit difficult, even for us!

    thanks,

    Dustin

Fantastic. Pictures and reports definately needed.

This is worth a posting on Carrypad. I'll get interested parties to come to this thread.

    Re: asus?

I'll see if I can post some pictures tomorrow (ehh, later today.. now I'm half drunk and I need to sleep ;-) ).

By the way; It seems I was wrong about the Bluetooth. This version doesn't have it.

I bought it from MyCOM (www.mycom.nl) for €699..
Today they just upgraded their site and I couldn't find it anymore. I'm sure they'll add it in a day or so.
Last thursday they received only 50 though they had orders for many more.

Ofcourse I knew it in advance but the device is quite slow. The first I removed was the preinstalled Norton Anti Virus and Anti Spyware stuff. The device needs tuning to make it perform acceptable but it is possible.
Also some windows are too big for the screen so I need to set the taskbar to auto hide. But this isn't specific for this device.
You need to press quite hard with fingers or pen to get something done. Until now I used the keyboard and a wireless USB mouse. I think using tablet PC drawing programs is out of the question.

The foldable keyboard has full size keys and works like a charm. In the booklet that came with it this keyboard is marked as an optional accessory. According to MyCOM they selected the things they wanted/didn't want so expect a different package and a different price.

    More info later.

I would assume that the screens on the UK models will be the same......if so...I think I'll be getting the i7210, as I want to be able to easily use an on-screen keyboard.

    Re: asus?

Correct me if im wrong, but in the US the only places that you can get a UMPC is either at Fry's Electronics, or through the Best Buy web site.

I had a thought earlier today.. "Maybe the device is relatively rare because you can only find it in two retailers or else you need to seek out the manufacturers."

    Thanks for the photos Marcel.

I've posted a news entry on the Carrypad journal. I'm sure there are a lot of people out there interested in this. Keep posting anything you can!

    Re: asus?

Looks like it comes with some good accessories.  The lack of a camera isn't a big deal as far as I'm concerned, and could even be an advantage, as some places won't let you take devices with cameras in.

I still love the look of this machine, but the specs just don't do it for me :(

    Re: asus?

    Marcel,

    Thanks for the information.
Last friday i was in a MyCom store in Amersfoort and allmost bought one myself.
But before buying, i wanted to know some things of the device first.
The salesman said they recieved the devices one half our before i arrived at the store, so they could not answer any questions of me about the device. I should return the next day.
One nice thing however was that they had allready unpacked one modell and i could hold it in my hands for a short while.
I was quite impressed to see Windows XP running on such a little device. It felt good, but warmer and a little bit heavier than i expected. It was good readable.
When i contacted the next day, they just sold the last modell, they recieved tree units.
So, maybe you can answer some of my question.
    1. Is it possible to rotate the screen? (for ebook reading for instance, or note taking)
    2. Is it possible to change the resolution?
    3. Is it really quite difficult to use the stylus for writing? I would like to use the device for note taking. So, do you think it is possible to use it for note-taking?
    4. Maybe the device is slow starting applications, but is it also slow when, for instance, Word is allready started and you are just using Word?
These are my quuestions so far.
I would appreciate it if you could answer them. Thanks allready.

    Kind regards,
    Henri

    Re: asus?

One of the members at Origami Project Forum has posted a nice photo review of the Asus R2H here.

The battery design in this UMPC is a lot better from the point of view of creating Extended Batteries. Being a flat Battery the weight is distributed along the whole back surface making the unit easier to handle.

Also in one of the pictures can be seen a compartment that probably could give access to memory banks or mini PCI slot.

    What's

interesting ctitanic ..... look a the pictures from the FCC website...maybe it will help you figure out what this little compartment is for !

i cant find the RAM MEMORY on the FCC pictures...but maybe you can.

FCC INTERNAL PHOTOS ON THE R2H

cant wait to hear more about the R2H !!!!

    Re: asus?

Eric, that port covered up by the batter, that ctitanic has circled should be the section for the mem upgrades. and the FCC pictures just showed mainly internals(hence the link internal) and the battery was attached through out most external photos.

    Re: asus?

At this time, the very important question is the screen resolutions of the R2H... 800x480 ? 800x600 ? 1200x600 or only 800 ???

    Re: asus?

    ctitanic,

Arrow left is access to the memory bank, which holds a 256MB S0-Dimm (totals 512MB), arrow right under the MS license info is for the battery connector.

Can show you a picture of the actual memory, if and when I've figured out how to add the picture into the message (first post)
