I'm definitely waiting for this one now.
With the built-in GPS, this would be perfect for mounting in a car, but from the images on carrypad.com, there doesn't seem to be any way to secure it to a mount. Are there any universal mounts out there that may do the trick?
Cheers
Neil

andrewk:I've been waiting for the R2H for a long time now.
 Me, too... to the point where I've given up on waiting. At the moment, it's vaporware, guys. Same category as the Phantom game console and Duke Nukem Forever. Asus has missed too many deadlines (without comment, even) and has eroded its credibility. Don't get me wrong - I'll believe it when I have it in my hands... but, frankly, not a moment sooner. - David Stein

Shouldn't we be starting to see some companies offering these for pre-order by now.
Does anyone know if it's likely to be available at most major retailers, or only certain authorised stockists?
Cheers

Asus has released official specifications of the R2H: - Intel® Celeron® M ULV Processor (900MHz)
- Genuine Windows® XP Tablet PC Edition
- Onboard 256MB, DDRII 533, 1x SoDimm socket for expansion up to 768MB DDRII 667 DRAM support (this is a weird number)
- 7" WXGA touch screen LCD, ASUS Splendid Video Intelligent Engine
- PATA 1.8" HDD 4200PRM 20/30/40/60 GB
- Bluetooth® V2.0 + EDR, 3x USB, 1x SD Card-Reader, 1x GPS, 1x Finger Print Reader
- 23.4 x 13.3 x 2.8cm, 830kg
I make it bold those points that I think are important. The whole machine is not bad but I would prefer to see a 2.5" HDD at 7200 RPM. Also, I don't know how you can get 768 MB of Memory in one socket because as far as I know you can buy 128, 256, 512 and 1 GB memory cards. 512 + 256 MB is 768, so it seems to me that this is the maximum of memory that can be reached in this machine, no 1 GB like in eo and Q1s. Combaning the memory slot and the onboard memory if the slot supports the 1 GB chip them the total is 1.25 GB of RAM but this is not what I can see from this press release.
I have not found any words about when the R2H will be available in the market and what is going to be the price of them. The whole text of Asus Press Release can be found here. -- Posted by CTitanic to ULTRA MOBILE PC TIPS at 8/25/2006 10:29:00 AM

Woadan:So to get more things, like GPS and fingerprint reader, you have to give up half the RAM that comes standard in the Q1?
Given that we know 1/2 GB of RAM is barely sufficient, I have to ask what the hell Asus was thinking. And for all you suckers, erm, customers who were waiting, well, was it worth the wait?
Woadan
Even thought the dissapoiting specs, it still beat anyting currently on the market suckers, erm, costumers, like you have bought and now have to live with...OUCH!!!

LaptopLogic had an article on the R2H here http://www.laptoplogic.com/news/detail.php?id=1330Heres what I don't get, why are they using the slower 4200rpm drive, and limiting the RAM to a max of 768? Woadan commented already on the RAM issue. I think that the pricing may be something they may be going for. But as far as pricing, with those limitations I think that about $800 would seem about right. BUT, the built in GPS will probably push that price right back out at what seems to be the UMPC soft spot for marketing between $1000 and $1200. Now we're just waiting on pricing and availability.

How can "disappointing specs", using your words, translate to beating anything on the market?
Given the amount of time Asus had from announcing their model to now, you'd think they'd have learned about the RAM. Waiting extra time for this wasn't necessary, which if I were considering it (I initially liked the Asus "look" better than the others), I would be very disappointed indeed with Asus for this. And I would not be appluding their efforts in so blasé a manner.
(On a side note, to our MS guys, I really hate how IE 7 now screws with using the alt key to make alternate characters like the "é" in blasé. Nothing happened until I hit ALT-3, when my favorites opened. Uncool.)
I am very happy "living with" the Q1. I didn't have to wait for the product to come late, it didn't come with less RAM then usable, and it didn't have power issues.
