    Re: 2GB SODIMM

Thanks for the reply. Now all makes sense. as I'm on the standard 512MB memory I'll give it a go and hopefully speed up my Q1 no end. At least a little ooomph is better than the fizzle I currently have! Thanks again, John

    Re: 2GB SODIMM

I found a company supplying the UK, Crucial, who have this as the nearest match to one mentioned in the thread:

  • Module Size: 2GB
  • Package: 200-pin SODIMM
  • Feature: DDR2 PC2-4200
  • Specs: DDR2 PC2-4200 • CL=4 • UNBUFFERED • NON-ECC • DDR2-533 • 1.8V • 256Meg x 64
  • Would this be OK?

    Re: 2GB SODIMM

That should work, but I always recommend checking the return policy of the vendor just in case. Good luck!

    Re: 2GB SODIMM

AVS NOW, to my understanding, uses a mini version of WinXP and it boots quickly because it's set to hibernate (fill memory from a file on the hard drive). That means that the file to fill your RAM is still 1GB when you now have 2GB of RAM to fill.

How to fix? I remember reading with the Q1P that people actually got the new version from Samsung. Other than that, I'm not sure there's any way to patch your existing version.

Try just reinstalling AVS. That probably will be enough. My is not working but I do not use it too much. In fact what I would really like is to see on of the Linux Media Center version that I have seen around installed in that partition.

    Re: 2GB SODIMM

Does AVS NOW come as an installation you can run, where it sets itself up with all the current hardware, or just something you can restore from factory defaults? My impression was that it was the latter, but I've obviously got no first-hand experience.

You have to restore it from a CD.

    Re: 2GB SODIMM

Yeah, if you're restoring the same 1GB hibernation file, you're not going to change anything. Look around or ask Samsung for a copy for a 2GB system.

    Re: 2GB SODIMM

Just upgraded my ASUS R2H with a 2Gb memory module. It rocks. Only detects 2031 Mb but in runs smothly and a little bit faster.

I bought my dimm here. With transport to Portugal it costs 100 €. NICE.

By the way, as this dimm has metal on the outside to cool it, I had to place some glue tape (I think it's the correct name in english) on the metal, this way there is no risk of short circuit because the dimm is a little bit thicker than the normal ones.
