Re: More news now about the Q1b

3:30 with Wifi on, really incredible.

If Q1b still can not set CPU in C3 state, I wonder how long can it run if the CPU power consuming function works.

Can't wait to see other performance tests, thanks for these report, propstm!

c3 works on my 7210 and it doesnt make much difference.
Has anyone confirmed that the c3 state is working?

Yeah, but you are getting more than two hours out of your 7210. And I would say that very close to to 2:30 while in eo v7110 you get around 2 hours sharp to 2:10. So like I said, a little bit more is better than nothing.

Re: More news now about the Q1b

Hi, I'm new to this forum. I received a Samsung Q1b on Tuesday (10/24) and overall I am impressed with this unit. I previously owned a NEC Versa Litepad tablet pc, so I am familiar with the Windows XP Tablet PC software. I just ran the OSMarkOut standard test and the results are shown below.

As propstm reported earlier, I am getting about 3.5 hours on a full charge (WiFi/BT radios on, and brightness at level 4). Compared to the Litepad, the screen on the Q1b is brighter and has a wider viewing angle. I do miss the hover capability of the active digitizer, however. The Q1b seems a bit faster than the Litepad (which has a 900 MHz Pentium III processor).

Updated test results. When I started the original test, the Q1b was running on battery and the processor was set to 400 MHz. I connect to AC midway through the test. I repeated the test with the Q1b plugged in and obtained the following results. Also, my unit has 512 MB of RAM with 446 MB available (rest is shared video). The video is set to 800x480x32.

While we're posting test results, the Q1b got a 404 on the 3D Mark 2001 program.

Re: More news now about the Q1b

    Ok, the eo v7110 scores en 3DMark 2001 -

    eo v7110=915 at 800x480x32

404 is at what resolution? This is too low.

    About OSMark,

    • Q1 = 493.3
    • eo v7110 = 364
so 348 seems to me a little bit lower than eo v7110 but I think that this is because of the amount of memory, in mine is 1 Gb and yours comes with 512 I think.

Could you check what is the amount of video memory that the Q1b is using?

Frank i'll go back through, test all the settings and resolutions.  that was the highest resolution.

Re: More news now about the Q1b

Didn't the eo v7110 testing with 3Dmark have a problem with being able to analyze the actual video performance of the Via Chipset? Perhaps it's the same with the Q1b Via version. It just doesn't "see" how well(or not) it really performs.      Jerry.

You are right. that's why I'm asking to check what resolution was used. OSMark is the best benchmark for VIAs.

The other test would be the real life. Movies, how movies perform. are they choppy?

Be careful. Running on battery and mains power can have a huge difference. On the i7210, the processor gets throttled underbattey power.

Re: More news now about the Q1b

Hi a2_q1b or propstm(Matt), just want to ask a few questions.

    1. How is the screen colors? Good color saturation?

    2. How is the screen sensitivity and the mono speaker output?  Is it overly sensitive or just right now? If you lightly touch the screen does it move the cursor or does it require a bit more focused pressure like say from the pen?

    3. Any video playback problems playing xvid, divx, or DVD's ie: choppy video? How is the output using headphones?

    Thanks, Jerry.

Re: More news now about the Q1b

    Hi Jerry,

The screen colors on the Q1b are great. I'm running at 32 bit, and the screen has nice color saturation. The viewing angle is supurb. Overall, the screen on the Q1b is as good as I have seen on most laptops. I'm not familiar with the touch screen sensitivity on the original Q1, but I can run my finger lightly over the Q1b's screen and the mouse cursor tracks perfectly. Handwriting in the TIP works well, and I rarely notice gaps in character strokes. I use light pressure as I write (so as not to damage the touchscreen), and the TIP recognizes my writing with high accuracy.

I connected a DVD drive to the Q1B and played a video for about 30 minutes. During this time there was no choppiness. Sound through the mono speaker is ok. Stereo is supported through the headphone connector, and the output is as good as that from my iPod. I tried launching other applications while the movie played, and there was a slight stutter at the beginning of application launch, but none once the application was loaded. If you're just playing a movie, the video and audio output are not choppy at all.

A few other observations on the Q1b. There is no built in microphone, but there is a connector for an external mic. There is a touch panel input app that allows one to change the way single clicks are interpreted. For example, normal mode registers a single mouse click as soon as you touch the screen. I use this setting when writing in the TIP. Another setting registers a single mouse click after the pen has been released and then only if the pen has not moved. I use the latter setting when I want to hover over items. The wireless reception is excellent. I receive a "very good" signal level in areas of my home for which my NEC tablet PC registered a "weak" signal.

Re: More news now about the Q1b

I updated my original post with the results for a second OSMark test. I started the first test with the Q1b unplugged, and as displayed in the OSMark output the processor was running at 400 MHz. The second test was performed with the Q1b plugged in (processor running at 1000 MHz).

OSMark for the second test is 364 (same as eo V7110).
