Hello, I have ordered the ram 2 gb for my Q1, in Italy less than 169 euro is not found. From how much I have understood must upgradare the bios to the version “20MA” in order to make to recognize it to the Q1, as soon as it arrives I install it and I make to know you! (excused my English Embarrassed [:$])

As for bios version about all that can be said is that everyone who has tried the 2gb upgrade seems to be running 20MA.  My gut feeling is that the old version would probably support it as well.

That's what I think too but so far has not been confirmed.

    Re: 2GB SODIMM

I was browsing through the Q1 Ultra manual and in the question and answer section (p. 215) it says the following:

Q A 4GB memory capacity is not recognized by Windows. A Windows Vista cannot display more than 4GB of memory due to license problems and driver compatibility reasons. Although the memory capacity is displayed as 3GB in the system information, the 4GB memory is recognized and can be used normally.

What's with that? Why would a Q1 manual be talking about 4GB RAM? Is it just some standard statement they throw in with Vista devices?

What do you think? Wink [;)]There is only one way to know:  testing.

    Re: 2GB SODIMM

Thanks to all the pioneers who blazed the 2 gig trail for us... just got mine the other day for my Q1... Im sure everyone has done this but once you upgrade the ram and reboot you should go (in XP) to start/control panel/system/advanced/performance settings/advanced/and click "change" your virtual memory... you'll see the total paging size for all drives at the bottom recommends you now use 3057 mb for the size and probably currently has allocated much less... if you make that your initial size in the center and hit set it will increase your page size and this was when I really noticed a nice gain.... just a quick tip... now if you boyz (you know who you are, Kevin) could just find me a 128 mb SSD that I could jam in there I'd be ready to upgrade to Vista and dump my laptop all together!!!

    Re: 2GB SODIMM

A quick thought on 2GB on the Q1U: I'm examining the case, and it's not obvious how to open it and get at the RAM.  It no longer appears to have the six little screws that the earlier Q1 models have.  I see two on the left looking at the back, but not others.  I was going to try to upgrade it, but now I think I'm going to hold off until someone else finds an easy way to open the case without destroying it.

    Re: 2GB SODIMM

The R2H can take any 667 Mhz DDR2 SODIMM. The R2H only recognizes upto 2 gbs of ram though.

    Schustring,

Thanks for this. This tip goes for those of us with Vista as well. The same recommended paging size is noted and you have to accept the change to make it active.

    Re: 2GB SODIMM

    Hi all,

I am very interested to read about upgrading RAM to 2GB in a Q1. I'm sure the slow speed I experience under Vista would improve ten-fold.

I have a question though (probably an obvious answer to most of you but I'm confused).

Which memory module exactly needs to be purchased? From what I understand I need a 2G DDR2 PC2-4100 module. I have seen that using a range of pins, so I'm confused about the exact unit.

Any help would be greatly welcomed. Thanks, John
