    Q1 Ultra Atom 800 Mhz w/ Vista - Performance?

I've cross posted this with another forum. I hope no one minds. I just wanted to get some reasonable feedback on this.

Am I crazy? I bought this thing and have been terribly disappointed in its performance from the very beginning. Slow to start, Slow to launch programs, Slow to shutdown. It would sit and ignore me for minutes on end after tapping something on the screen.

I upgraded the memory to 2 GB and got a little better performance. Nothing stellar but a noticeable improvement. I even updated the swap file after installing the new memory.

One thing I had not done was update my "Windows Experience Index". I figured it would only show the memory had changed but I think I got a bonus!?! Memory improved of course but so did graphics. Processor is still a miserable 2.0. I wish I had written the old scores down to be absolutely sure. Anyway - I swear, the bloody thing runs faster now. Programs launch faster. Origami experience can really be called a rich and beautiful experience now. I've even turned Aero back on. Everything runs much better.

Did "Updating my score" change something to make it run better. I'm serious. It is like this thing has finally gotten out of first gear.

Re: Q1 Ultra Atom 800 Mhz w/ Vista - Performance?

I have Q1U-EL, shipped with Vista. First I had 1GB RAM, now after upgrade my UMPC has 2GB RAM.
After update, I got better performance, but Vista still uses 40% CPU and sometimes frozen.
Now I downgrade OS to XP Tablet and computer performance is more satisfactory. XP uses only 2-4% CPU and never frozen.

I think that good way to improve performace is replace original HDD with Solid Disk (I plane to use fast CF Card and CF to ZIF interface),.

This is my first message, so hi everyone!, and sorry for my poor english.

I did the same thing, but a few things to ask. Did you turn off indexing on the HD? Ever since the Windows update mine has been the best! I don't even use my tower or TC1100. I just installed OneNote and am very pleased with this device. I hope everyones Q1U-Vista works as well as mine.

I found a program you can use to overclock the CPU too 998-1000 GHZ Do a search and you should be able to find the program here on the forums.

Sometimes mine just sits there and gets stuck too, but I think its a vista thing, doing something in the background. I give it a few seconds and it catches up with itself.

Since the Windows update, my device is really fast and responsive. I hope everyone is having the same affect as mine. Even writing this 'the cursive "rarely" lags, but it quickly catches up with itself.

I am still pleased with this device and will use & keep it for awhile and wait to see what becomes of Atom, AMD and c7-M processors and battery life before I commit to another UMPC. I hope this may help in some way. I am keeping an eye on the M528 and the Everrun Note. Lets see how battery life improves as well assize. 7" screen is perfect for my eyes; but pocketability is what I am interested in too.

I have noticed over the past 7or8 months that the windows updates have improved my beloved Q1U even the wifi and the Atheros card are behaving very well. Sorry so long winded. Good Luck!
