The Sony UX products are definitely in a class of their own, but like the OQO 02 you need to see if the screen size is right for you. The Sony UX has a higher native resolutuin, touchscreen, and higher end graphics support, but 4.5 inch screen might be too small for some. I think it is the only UMPC with the fastest Intel ULV cpu AND newer graphics gpu for the best performance and graphics experience of a UMPC.

Only caveat is it is not as pocketable as the OQO 02. They really target different consumers but the price of all UMPC's, PPC's, MID's, and even the vast array of convertables, notebooks, & desktops will impact each other where hopefully the one we want is affordable, so I welcome the competition.

You should have provide a write in option, then I'd vote for the Samsung SPH P9200 for the first semblence of a possible pocket umpc with a real touch type keyboard.  Number two would be the OQO model2 for proving XP/Vista can be made pocket size-although I hate the thumb input.

Different mobile use modes. I can thumb type anywhere with my OQO 02. You would have to be Chris Angel to touch type with something like a Poisn or Samsung Sph in mid air without a table, and they are too small to set on your lap to type on.

The Psion was easy to type while standing as the unit locked into a firm open position easy to hold in two hands for quick thumb entry.  It also had a super easy keyboard that was easy to type on your lap or any flat surface.

The Samsung looks to be made mainly for flat surfaces or your lap but at least it is pocketable and has a touch type keyboard.

An OQO is more a gadget as it is impractical to do much real windows use with a thumb input.  If you carry a keyboard etc. then your carrying about the same as a notebook and with the hassle it is easier to use a notebook.

The problem with all umpc's is the lack of a touch type keyboard and to make the unit unique against any subnotebook/laptop so it needs to be pocket size.  Pocket size still can mean sizes like 3.5" x 7" so that a decent keyboard is integrated yet that still fits in a jacket or coat pocket.  That is the problem most umpc's are re-inventing the wheel and the form factors they have come up with are not mainstream.  People prefer touch type keyboard and they want a computer to fit in a pocket so they can use it everywhere.

There is room for all sizes & input features of UMPC's. I have no problems with my OQO 02 w/o a touch type keyboard or for the extreme opposite a touch screen. Although I plan to eventually get Bluetooth keyboard & mouse, I've yet to hook any external input devices to my 02 and I'm doing fine from Word to email with text entry. Also my experience with fold up keyboards is not well on my lap or surface that is not flat & solid.

If touch type is what everyone prefers as some alude to, we wouldn't see so much spam across these forums trying to convince everyone else it is, especially in an attempt to psion the OQO.

My 02 fits tight in some of my shirt front pockets, so I hope to see the next release over the OQO 02 to be a tad thinner & lighter, and slighly bigger screen thinning the bezel but not enlarging the overall dimensions. Any longer or other increase in any way crosses that threshold of pocketable for me.

"these forums"  These forums are filled with mainly people ok with thumb or pen input and that is a clear minority when there are what 700K of you worldwide and what 103 million notebooks and another 140 or so dekstop pc's sold this year.  If you talk to the outside world you will find the majority want touch type input.  I can not help the fact thus far all the UMPC' designers have no clue and are not in touch with mainstream users.

But surely there must be some non-thumb, non-pen, but fingers and thumbs input people here, besides me ? Otherwise I will have to attribute ZWKB downloads to martians. This could explain why the mainstream isn't buying UMPC's because these are designed by martians for martians.

Pretty close analogy, they are designed by techies and geeks and sold to techies and geeks.  The entire PC OS has been  touch type keyboard input right?  So what is the logic in creating a mobile PC OS experience and trying to get people to change behavior to something less desirable? only a techie or geek would think of that, the same people whom think mainstream people are going to wear a PC on their face, NOT, they are probably the real 40 year old virgins.

Here is the new Intel UMPC, it is jacket pocket size, built in keyboard, built in WIFI, USB, 4-6 hours battery, less than 1 lb, and they do not care what OS you load as their demo ran Windows but they said you can load Linux, Mac, whatever you want.

You have to be Krusty the clown to put one of these in your pocket as stated in the article. There will not be much demand for this type of machine at all because the number of clowns in world is quite small. The non-pocketable UMPCs with no touch type keyboards are the only way forward.

If you watched the video they said clearly it is pocket size, your the clown.  Look at the device it is easily jacket pocket size. Look Intel is not dumb they added a keyboard because pen only devices have never sold period to the mainstream users.  They are in the business to sell millions of chips and if they promoted it only for pen users they would not sell millions of chips.  The pen only devices are the ones designed for clowns that are delusional and think everyone else will see their clown logic, NOT.

Show me some successful 7" pen only devices with great sales?  You can not becuase there are none.

If you read the reviewer's comment, you will see that machine requires the pocket of Krusty the Clown. It's in black and white, and it is the truth. Like I said, that machine will not sell as few clowns will need a PC.

NOT, just look at the video and you can see this prototype is about the size of an OQO which is easily jacket pocket size.  What seems to be more of trend is that look for 2008 to see a lot more 4-5" UMPC's rather than 7" non mobile devices.

Even the Samsung sph p9200 is a 5" UMPC that when folded up is jacket pocket size.
