    deezmfnutz:
Well my initial qualitative assessment of performance is very positive. Everything is much faster and smoother. TIP is very smooth. sleep, reboot, shutdown etc... much faster. Windows open and close faster. Overall just a much smoother experience. 2GB is probably a must have upgrade for any Q1 ultra owner with vista. I am actually going to turn some eye-candy back on. The machine is a REAL pleasure to use right now. Throw in the ~7 hours of battery life with the 6-cell battery and you have a winner!!

    Thanks for the update!!

Now bring on the pics!!! Smile [:)]

Well, just ordered the Patriot 2 gig stick from Fry's, thanks for the lead Mazda.  Can't wait for the Ultra to arrive.

    Re: Q1 Ultra 2GB Upgrade

dsc based on what deezmfnutz bought and installed the DDR2 PC2-5300 (667MHz) module works just fine. Looks like it runs at the lower 400mhz (PC3200) speed without any problems.

He ordered the same one as Mazda_3s, which has not installed the stick just yet.

I have just ordered the same stick, will post once I get it installed as well. Thanks to those that were brave enough to open up the unit and test it out for the rest of us!

Gents - I need help here

Unfortunately frys.com is not really an option living in switzerland. What do I need to look for in specifications? I know kingston is always way too expensive, but worst case scenario, which one would it be?

    Thanks for your help

Seems like this would be the one:
    Search Results for: KVR667D2S5/2G
    Description: 2GB 667MHz DDR2 Non-ECC CL5 SODIMM
    Detailed Specifications: Standard 256M X 64 Non-ECC 667MHz 200-pin Unbuffered SODIMM (SDRAM-DDR2, 1.8V, CL5)  (Datasheet)
    Mfgr's System P/N's: N/A
    Form Factor: Memory Module
    Pieces/Unit: 1
    Warranty: Lifetime

Maybe someone can back me up on that before you buy it, but that seems to match the specs of the one I ordered (Patriot Brand).

    Re: Q1 Ultra 2GB Upgrade

seeing as the q1u does accept pc5300, that module would work. the specs are good and it is apparently compatible

    Re: Q1 Ultra 2GB Upgrade

It will be great if those who have upgraded post this experience. has performance improved?

I have my memory on the way from fry's but no sense upgrading if there is no improvement!

That index is based on the lowest factor (video I believe in your case) - it will not change because you add memory. It is, in fact, a rather poor metric to judge a machine by because of this.

    Re: Q1 Ultra 2GB Upgrade

thanks! I know but I feel that Vista need not just memory but also graphic adaptor and fast disk.

besides, I bought Q1 which come with Vista so assume should be ok for Vista but actually not the case. increased memory really not much improvement unless there is possibility to upgrade the graphic adaptor and faster disk.

But one thing I like is the Dialkeys which I manage the tunch screen as keyboard by two thomb, nice!
