My goal is to let Intel know that we, consumers, know that what they have delivered this time is not more than a cut version of what we had before ]
Im not sure what kind of consumers you're representing but dont count me in please. 2nd gen intel based umpcs represent far more than what you're referencing. They represent a coming together of improvements across the board. Cooler running , LED backlit screens, better graphics (taking processing load from cpu) , new deep sleep mode, keyboards, accesories, optimised software (there are many companies working with Intel now), and best of breed radios. McCaslin is a small part of a fresh ecosystem that has brought to market one of the best engineered umpcs so far. If you want to represent consumers it might be best to let them have the whole picture first. Cheers Steve
Steve, I'm obviously representing the 62% that voted in this poll for a better performance. You, of course, are representing the 38%. Do not get me wrong. I want battery life but not at the cost of performance.

What is the relevance to anything in that made up poll? 1) There is no link to where the poll was originally posted. Was it posted in a forum regarding business professionals who prefer lightweight low-powered devices with excellent battery life or more casual folks who don't mind lower battery life for increased performance? If someone posts a poll that says "Chevy vs Ford, who's the best" on a Ford enthusiast board, what do you think is going to happen? You have to cite your sources and give some background on to who is being asked the question. 2) There is no indication to tell whether this is talking about UMPCs or sub-notebooks or mainstream notebooks or desktop replacements or heck, maybe even smartphones. Basically, the poll is absolutely WORTHLESS.

Re: Interesting McCaslin discussion.
Mazda_3s like your references to cars :).
Personally I would give up maybe 1 hour max of battery life for better performance. But I am a 13 year old boy who doesn't go on vacations and is usualy at home right next to a power point. But still if we had better factory performance couldn't the geeks who wanted better battery life tune down performance?
Also I agree with chippy ( my Nickname is Chipz :) ). The 2nd generatoin is making a good step. I like the hardware sleep abilities.
Also I can't wait :) ( I don't have a tablet pc or UMPC).
But the guy who said it will be released in 2009 is right. And anyway who knows, UMPC might all of a sudden fall?.
Well ok my 2 cents.

Mazda_3, you are acting like a 13 year old child. The poll was posted in this same forum, check the poll subforum at this site. It was also posted at my blog. As far as I know, in these two sites we do not talk about cars. The only one talking about cars the whole time is you. Like I said before, whatever you say.

The car reference was being used as a comparison. It was used as a comparison b/c of your lack of evidence to provide a "scene" for the poll. You can't simply post a link to a poll on some random website with no description of where it came from or to who the poll is targeted at and expect for someone to take it seriously. Bottom line, you posted a link to a poll and provided no supporting evidence. That is not an effective way to get your point across.

Here is the link again. And once again, stop acting like a 13 year old child. I did not say anything about the poll because I was talking to Steve and being an old conversation between Steve and me, as you can see in the intial text I wrote on that thread, I thought that Steve already knew about this poll because I have mentioned already multiple times in other thread where he also has participated.

The link was not provided in your original post about the poll in this thread. If you had linked back to that in your original post about the poll, this wouldn't even be an issue. B/C that thread gives us the context from which the poll was based. And if you are trying to use the poll to prove your point, all you had to was link back to the thread which contained the poll instead of directly to the poll. B/C by linking directly to the poll, you cut out the whole back story which is essential to those reading and interpreting this thread.

If you can wait probably you should check the VIA C7M UMPCs runing at 1.2 GHz if you don't care too much about Aero. Those machines have the same perfomance than the A110 machines and some of them have a really good design.

Re: Interesting McCaslin discussion.
So the Via 1.2ghz is the same as McCaslin A110? That means that Via is bad then?
Well don't remeber the exact website but the bottom line of that website was that Via just sucked.
I don't *really* care about aero but it is a nice touch. Well I will check the VIA UMPC out anyway... Thanks Ctitanic.
( man this conversation makes me look dumb O___O ) . Well anyway who agrees with that guys post that we should skip Mc Caslin?

Re: Interesting McCaslin discussion.
I don't agree with that statement. McCaslin might not be for everybody but to dismis it for everyone is nonesense. It gives a lot more battery power for equal performance. If you want ultra mobile computing now it is the best available solution. Nine months is a long time to wait for a device that might give you something more powerfull.

Re: Interesting McCaslin discussion.
cpu speeds are similar but intels gpu is far better...
... u should buy a device by your use not by cpu.
today the "best" umpc still is q1u
when htc shift hits markets it might take the lead ... us702 will be available at q1 08 so a lot af waiting if u deside to wait...

Do not say that on front of chippy! ![Wink [;)]](/emoticons/emotion-5.gif) ![Devil [6]](/emoticons/emotion-14.gif) ![Party!!! [<:o)]](/emoticons/emotion-19.gif) From the point of view of performance the C7M at 1.2 GHz which is the one use commonly in this second generation have about the same performance than the A110 but... It runs hot, the fan used on these devices is noisy and it does not support Aero. If you can live with these I would say that out there you can find some VIA devices in this second generation that are not bad at all, despide the fact that JKK does not like the Medion. The Medion is the one with the splitted keyboard no? There is another one with the same design but with a full keyboard. And you have the OQO 02 with an excellent design, so in fact we have more options and better if you ask me, from the point of view of design, with VIA processors than with A110. But what I said applies only if you can't wait for the next generation of processors.

do you mean from the Second Generation? Disagree with you on this one. That split keyboard does not convince me too much. But at this point is a matter of preferences. All of them so far lack of performance... And I need that. Again, it's a matter of preferences.

Fully agree with you on this one. I'm praying for the US702 not using the A110 neither the VIA of course ;) If the new Intel processors are not here I would buy it with a Celeron.

Do you have more information on the US702? I have only been able to find small pics and vids of the device on Google, and neither are very detailed as far as the exterior of the device is concerned. How big is the screen, for example? And if Intel is trying to push UMPCs as a low-power alternative to notebooks, yet more powerful than smartphones, then why would they use a notebook processor (i.e. mobile Celeron w/o SpeedStep) in a device?

If you look at UMPCportal.com UMPC Table, you will find all the information that you are looking for. About your processor question, well, the fact is that those units that you saw in those videos where using Celeron (is not I'm right JKK?). Intel is pushing to the only thing they have "new" available. But market could push OEMs to a different path. One example of this are keyboards. The majory of the UMPC in the second generation have keyboards and I would say that that happens thank to the press and communities asking for keyboards.
