    Re: 2GB SODIMM

I'm just happy that I'm coming to a better understanding of my computer both physically and software wise. And yes, I really hope it does support the 2gb. If so, I'll be getting that instead of the 1gb.

Guess I'll have to stop by Fry's after work. If it doesn't work, I'll take it back.

Are you planning on trying this upgrade on your eo v7110?  If so, I'm definitely looking forward to reading your results.  If it works, I will almost certainly try this upgrade as well...

    Re: 2GB SODIMM

The VIA VN800 has a theoretical 4GB ceiling. A 2GB SODIMM may just work out of the box. *crosses fingers*

    Thoughtfix,

Any chance to try this out yet?  I have to be in Fremont tomorrow and was wondering if I should drop in on the local Fry's...

    Re: 2GB SODIMM

ThoughtFix and I have been e-mailing each other our results as my RAM arrived this morning. The results are mixed, i.e.: no luck for him yet on the Q1B or eo while my installation worked.

Preliminary details here, no tests or benchmarks just yet.

    Re: 2GB SODIMM

Kevin at JKonTheRun as upgraded his Q1p with 2 GB of RAM and it works! Both the Q1p and the Q1 use the same BIOS so I just ordered 2 GB to install it in my Q1.

    q1p_bios_2_gb

WOW! That's a real good news!

Bad news, because that´s the case with all the VIA processor devices including your Q1b.

    Re: 2GB SODIMM

I just updated the RAM in my Q1 with Vista pre-installed to 2GB. I haven't run any benchmarks, but one thing I did notice when opening Control Panel for the first time is that all of the icons appeared at once instead of gradually.

Start up to the login screen was 40 seconds, not bad at all.

Shut down was quicker as well.

Anyone attempting to do this should do as Kevin at jkontherun says: be easy on the Q1 when trying to remove the back after taking out all the screws.
