    Re: Plays PC games?

I don't want to play WoW,

I would like to play Lineage II.

But I don't think there's many chances of it.

And whatever it can run, you may want to watch your batteries while playing...

    Re: Plays PC games?

    TYNOz:

why not World of Warcraft ?

The minimum system specs are :

  • Intel Pentium III or AMD Athlon 800 Mhz or higher CPU
  • 512 Megabytes (MB) or more of RAM
  • 32MB 3D Graphics card with Hardware Transform and Lighting (such as an Nvidia GeForce 2 class or better)
  • 6 Gigabytes or more of available hard drive space
  • 4x CD-ROM drive
  • DirectX® 9.0c (included with game) and latest video card drivers

  • so lets hope that it haves 512 mb ram :D

or just wait for an expensive 1 :P

It may pass in the CPU and RAM areas but we still have no idea what type of graphics card these units will have, and second of all the units don't have built-in CD drives so unless you want to lug around a external one wherever you go makes you wonder if it's just a better idea to play it on your desktop...

The CDs are only for the install, you don't need them to play.

    Re: Plays PC games?

You dont need the CD to play wow!

make some images of the original transfer them to you UMPC and your done!

instal it and delete the images and you will spare some space on your UMPC!

and your right the graphic card is the most importand!
    but we will see it

I don't have WoW so I didn't know that you didn't need the CD to play but we still don't what what type of graphics card these are going to use it all depends on that, if there good than great you have MMO to Go :). If not...too bad. :( But all i want to see is Heroes of Might and Magic III on here that would be the coollest thing ever!

HOMM Is one of my favorite game series, it's addictive and time consuming=great for solving boredom. I gotta go find the specs of III and IV(different but still fun).
Here they are for III. Minimum System Requirements
    System: Pentium-133 or equivalent
    RAM: 32 MB
    Video Memory: 2 MB
    Hard Drive Space: 200 MB
    Recommended System Requirements
    System: Pentium-166 or equivalent
That should run perfect without the UMPC even breaking a sweat. :)
And I found my IV case and minimum are pentium II 300mhz, 128mb ram, 4mb SVGA capable of 800x600 resolution, and 750mb free disk space.
The only thing I am worried about is the resolution considering that the UMPC only has 800x480. Though the guy in the channel 9 interview said that it can run apps that are in higher resolutions and though it will be worse quality.
But all in all this means heroes to go. (w00t).

    Re: Plays PC games?

However gaming fits Origami. Pseudo Halo looks quite nice, doesn't it? By the way there's HOMM V coming out soon!

    Re: Plays PC games?

I would expect that you will only be able to run low resolution games on it after seeing the specks, although I’d ask one of the moderators of the forum that work for Microsoft. If you are looking for a portable X-Box I expect to see that in another protect of its own not in this. Origami can’t compete with the Sony PSP or comparable products because of the price factor. I would imagine that Microsoft might release something like this in one to two year(s) but that is pure speculation.

    Re: Plays PC games?

If you take a look at the presentations of both devices at MS UMPC website, you'll see that ASUS is thicker and has biger holes for cooling radiator(s) (left side of ASUS device, top of Samsung UMPC). I believe ASUS will be able to handle newer games than Samsung (and of course price will be higher). But playing WoW sounds not really possible - Otto mentioned DirectX 7 and 8 (8.1?); WoW requires DirectX 9.0 and I doubt we'll get 9.0 enabled GPU anytime soon.

    Re: Plays PC games?

Hey, DirectX 9.0 is already enabled in today GPUs! Or I'm totally wrong about the matter...
